Right now, the system is set up so that even staff (by default) don't have access to private factional subforums. I'm currently set as admin, and I've been visiting subforums occasionally to post poll links and such.

There are pros and cons to each side. If we visit subforums, we can participate in discussions and give feedback more readily. On the other hand, it does create a privacy issue. I trust all my staff implicitly, or they wouldn't be staff; this isn't about honesty. However, it's very hard to forget you saw something. If I go into the Pinguland subforum and see a massive plot to betray Rengarville, it's really hard for me to forget seeing that, and it might come out accidentally. On the other hand, if I see that thread, I can more rapidly engage with Pinguland Summoners and perhaps come up with some ways to incorporate their plans into the story.

What do people think? Should faction subforums be:

  • Totally private (neither staff nor I will look at subforums not our own)
  • Mostly private (myself and designated staff members might look at the subforums)
  • Open to staff (staffers are free to flip through subforums as they like, though what they see will be kept confidential)

Of course, even if we go "totally private", you'll still be free to ask through your faction's staff mentor, or to post a general discussion public thread.

It is probably best if only a few staff members look just to make sure there isn't any cheating (person uses smurfs to see the decisions of other factions) or other such activities going on.

Only Core Staff Members should be able to visit all private forums. Examples would be 501st Big Mike, You, Nagg and Monte. As much as I'm sure other staff members would like to visit other forums (I myself would admittedly like to see what's going on with Bilgewater and Ionia, NOT FOR THE LORE EVENTS but just to see what's up with them) I feel like the only ones who should have such a privilege are the ones who keep the gears shifting.

Yeah, it should only apply to core staff members.

It should only apply to admins, I wouldn't trust myself with that power.

It looks like the vote is overwhelmingly in favor of allowing certain staff members to view all the forums.

We should probably hold a vote for which staff members should be allowed to do so.

CrazyMLC, CupcakeTrap, Naggarok, 501st Big Mike, Monte, pretty much the Core Staff that keeps the infrastructure stable. That's what I say.

I would definitely miss the occasional CupcakeTrap post in the bilgewater forums. but not EVERY staff member should have this. I can kinda trust a few to be hush-hush.

Personally I think it should be completely private. You can delegate on the admins from each faction and get any information from them if you need it. Like you said, Cupcake, even if you're not doing it maliciously, you'd know things you should not be allowed to know as a Shadow Isles summoner.

I haven't been voting in lore events for the most part largely for this reason. Perhaps that should be part of the policy: if you have full read access, no voting in events.

I was actually going to suggest this. If you're here to only help Factions (such as posting polls, engaging in discussions, etc.) then you should be able to access all of the forums, but cannot vote in any of the polls or talk with the factions about the other factions. There should be a sense of privacy, but the people that are not active in the polls or the Featured Matches should at least be able to view and engage in the other forums.

Mostly private seems best option, so long as the staff don't go sharing secrets.

Gonna go ahead and unpin this - not only is Nyroth is over, but the answer to this poll seems pretty definitive.

Well, good luck getting the votes to support you on that one. I'm with the overwhelming majority in that some members are more trusted (like CCT, Montesque, the one who set up this forum (I'm sorry I don't remember who it is, Matsokune or something?), etc).

Matsokune registered it and got it going, I helped get everything in place/make the theme/adding in scripts to improve the forum/stuff like that.
