Through its victory in the first tournament, Bilgewater became Valoran's emissary pro tempore to the Nyrothians. Staff has been trying to think of ways to put this into effect, but it's actually a little difficult. We're continuing to bat ideas around, but I'd also like to ask all of you. What ideas do you have regarding the sorts of powers that Bilgewater might have gained through this role? I'd be more interested in flavorful story effects (e.g. some ability to reassign islands or pieces of the mainland, or statements of policy regarding Valoranian-Nyrothian relations, or making deals with the Nyrothians) than simple World Systems bonuses (e.g. "+20 Commerce"), but I'll hear everything you have to say. |

I think that a large part of it should be defining Valoranian-Nyrothian relations. I remember near the begininng there was the whole deal with the winged people of the mainland I believe, and policies regarding them should be definitely considered (ie; if we ever tell them that the Cataclysm may have been our fault), establishing trade agreements and joint-research projects. I dunno, I'll think of more stuff after I wake up tomorrow. |

I'd personally interpret it as we're acting as those directly helping the Nyrothians. The way I see it, we made some mistakes in the past during the Rune Wars, and due to our tampering with catastrophic-level magic, it's our obligation to fix the problem. I don't quite remember quite how much information we decided to give to the Nyrothians on our involvement in the Rune War (and, potentially, the alterations it had on their continent), but the League was founded because of mistakes made during the Rune War, and I hope that there's more than just a few that remember our responsibility towards repairing the mistakes of the past. However, there's still plenty of details that I'm personally wondering about - The ancient Nyrothian, the link between the islands and the mainland, the poisoning of the land, and the "Odd Magic" residing on the mainland. There's too much that we don't know still, and we should be closely working with the Nyrothians to answer these questions. Knowledge should be prioritized and accumulated before irrational decisions are made. |

The Commerce world bonus makes sense to a degree. As the sole emissary, we could impose "fees" for anything involving Nyroth. It sounds like a mutually Bilgewater take on the role, but that could make it interesting if another similar situation arises. A primary benefit that all factions would have, but a secondary benefit that's faction specific. Regulating Valoran/Nyroth relationships seems more proper for a role as emissary. Any interaction between Valoran and Nyroth must be overseen by Bilgewater. Meaning somewhere in between knowing what a faction wants to do when it involves Nyroth and being able to react to it, and having some say in other faction's decisions involving Nyroth. Doing anything under the table (i.e. smuggling military in or whatnot), would be punishable to varying degrees if caught. |
