Watch stonewall's video on herding. It's incredibly useful for tanky cc champs in general. |

So, ah, Naut's Q is weird. I was playing against him bot lane as Janna. He tried to Q me, in which I responded with a tornado, then his hook animation glitched, went flying all over the place for half a second, then I got hooked. |

Naut top is actually pretty decent. I actually like playing it against Riven, especially if you do a shield max. The Aoe DoT is so strong, and she can't do anything back. And both ap and ad are viable. The times I've played him top, I played as ap. RoA is a huge spike in power for you, and there are alternative routes (Frozen Heart, Iceborn Gauntlet, Abyssal) that you can rush. As ad, I've still have to fix a few things, but you'd be building like an attack speedish build. Not a ton of attack speed like adcs, but enough to do reliable damage. Triforce/Wit's End works wonders, and with throwing some health in there, you'd be doing pretty good damage. It's the skillshots issue that's currently being fixed. The fix is on PBE, to make skillshots a lot easier, code-wise. Edited by Purple Bavarois, Jun 14 2015, 10:04 AM.

The one problem with Naut top is that, while he wins a few surprising matchups, he really loses a lot more than he wins. And unfortunately, the ones he wins are not yet picked up, or cannot be picked up. And some of the ones he technically wins are Pyrrhic victories (namely Nasus). Sure, he'll win the early game matchup, but he doesn't scale hard enough to justify using him as a counter pick, and he doesn't truly shut down the lane because his primary ways to bully people out of lane will push his lane, so anybody he beats early that can still farm safely under turret is typically still a safe pick. That being said, nuclear launch Nautilus is a hilarious build path that should never be pulled out ever unless you know exactly what you're doing. |

It's even more amusing when you're running full ap runes/masteries. Even at level 1, you're nuking them hard. |

I've met with a lot of success playing Nautilus support in ranked, so here's a bunch of tips that have helped me with laning and other. Start with relic shield and all the health pots your money can buy. Nautilus has a lot of health, so if the enemy bot laners want to keep you at low health, laugh spam them while your adc is at full health. Only engage the enemy bot laners if you have a clear shot with your q if you're far away. If the support has relic shield and gets too close to execute one of your minions, this is a great chance to get a hit off, and with the immobilization, a fantastic predicament for Ezreal and Caitlyn to fire a skillshot at them. If you want to engage harder, E immediately after as to slow them and deal lots of damage. This works even better if the support is alone in the lane, since you don't have to worry about being attacked by someone with very high DPS. Only use your Q in laning to escape or to hook on to the enemy. Definitely do not try to hook the ADC through a wall of minions. If you're not like me and haven't basically developed a sixth sense to landing hooks at this point, try to Q when the ADC is out of the way from minions. If you back or have died, use your Q to hook onto the terrain (turrets, inhibs, walls) to propel yourself farther. This makes you get to lane faster, though remember not to spam this too much. If you use our Q every available time early game, you won't have a lot of mana when you get back to lane. Nautilus is great at kiting. If you run into a couple of enemies in their jungle and you have a lot of defense stats (mostly this applies to late game) you can use your E to deal damage to those who are chasing you, and then use your Q to hook terrain, thereby propelling yourself away from the enemy/ies. If your attackers haven't stopped attacking you, your team can set up an ambush in a bush. Just Q near a bush and laugh spam them while your teammates hiding in that bush walk out and kill them. Having your ult for a surprise attack is great, since they've been knocked up and the bush hiding people have a chance to walk closer to the enemy/ies, if they haven't walked into the bush themselves after you have. If you think you'll take a lot of damage during kiting, use your W to shield yourself. My build is usually Relic Shield, 4 health pots, and warding totem > Targon's Brace and Ruby Crystal > Sightstone, two cloth armours (or Warden's Mail if I have enough gold), and sweeping lens > Glacial Shroud > Frozen Heart for early game. I usually get Frozen Heart to help with laning, but if the enemy team doesn't have a lot of AD, consider buying Locket of the Iron Solari, or Rod of Ages. Also remember to buy health potions when needed. Nautilus's Q and R both stop channels. If you haven't engaged with either of these, try to save one of them for stopping a channel, such as Katarina or Warwick, though if you trust your Jayce to stop channels, which you should, use your Q to stop fleeing enemies if they try to do such a thing. Use Depth Charge if you have a clear line through a lot of your enemies. It also has a high width and casting range, so you can easily knock up most members of the enemy team. (Vi, Heimerdinger, Janna, Ziggs, and Orianna also have at least one way to stop channels) If Morgana ults you and your ADC and they can't easily escape without themselves, and Morgana hasn't Zhonya'd (at this point just use your Q to run away if you don't have QSS or Mikaels. Caitlyn and Ezreal also have means to escape) consider ulting Morgana (even if she Zhonya's, you still have time to escape, if it's not a teamfight or something) or using your passive to immobilize her, thus allowing your ADC to escape mostly unharmed. There are times you shouldn't do this, such as in a teamfight, but in laning this is useful to remember if Morgana is the support. Even if you've been stunned, you can E to slow, and Q to a wall. If you start your Q and it lands on to terrain, even if Blitzcrank pulls you, you will still be pulled to your anchor. I'm not sure if this works for Darius, but it probably does. Nautilus does tons of AOE damage with his W shield and his E. If you want to deal more damage and still be a tank, buy at least an item that has both defense and offense stats, such as Rod of Ages, Abyssal Scepter, or Liandry's Torment. If you're in a fight by dragon pit and the dragon is on low health, and your jungle isn't that great at smiting dragons, use your Q and/or R at the enemy jungler so they can't contest smite. Don't do this always such as in a big teamfight where not dieing is more important than dragon, or if the jungler on your team is like challenger or something. Also don't do this if there's someone else on the enemy team who can easily steal dragon, such as if they have a Naggarok playing. If a couple of enemies are trying to chase your ADC, immobilize them with your passive and slow them with your E. Nautilus is great at helping people not die. I've ran out of tips to say, so I'll edit this if I remember any more. |

Don't play Naut like Blitz. They both have hooks, but they have different tools to back them up, so they need to be played differently. Blitz will typically hug bush side of the lane for vision games if only to bait out wards so river doesnt get warded. Naut will hug river side because of how his q works and his all in style of play. Basically, blitz has primarily close range single target abilities along with a true hook, so he's good for making picks with his hooks, which is a very outside style of play. Naut has a lot of close range aoe abilities, so he wants to get in the thick of things to have maximum effectiveness. As such, Blitz seeks to zone the enemy towards the river because it facilitates easier picks, while Naut seeks to zone the enemy towards the bushes, since it facilitates a foolproof engage because of his hook's hook/gapcloser properties. This isn't to say you can't zone in other directions, this is just optimal positioning in lane assuming no lane wards and minimal river wards. |

Also it might be good to add, hooking a champ drags you towards the enemy. This is good for an engaging with the team but Its gotten me into trouble a few times in getting caught out. |
