A young acolyte bows as you approach. "Greetings, Summoner. I confess your face is yet unfamiliar to me. May I ask your name?"
He opens the register book and wets a quill. Will you sign?

Hi, I just found out about this and am kinda confused...
I signed up for Arc VII on Shurima (NA) and don't know what to do next. Some information about how this works would be nice, I'm a bit lost. Nobody really seems to be answering in the factions chat room either.
I was also wondering what the average skill level is for this, I'm lvl 25 and (obviously) unranked, but I think I'm ok at xerath. What's the average player like?

Thanks to anyone that answers,
Junuh

The average player is Diamond 1.
Kidding, we have mostly silvers here.

So the next step you can do is sign up for your faction subforum of Shurima. It's in the upper right of your screen, between the arrows. Also this thread: http://forum.leaguefactions.net/topic/11147959/1/#new

As for chat, ignore the number of people there. Last time I looked (yesterday morning on the East Coast), there were 50 people in chat. I recognized about 9 of them, and only about 7 are reasonably active members. Seriously, the number of people is a lie in there.

We have unrankeds and below level 30s, though I believe those were more common in previous arcs. Sad to say, but those below 30 don't really get to play in Featured Matches (FMs) on weekends, as we don't really have a lot of those. Once you hit 30, you'll be counted as a Bronze until you get ranked.

You can create a pickup game at any time, though good luck doing so for the most part. We have scheduled games on weekends (FMs), and you have to sign up for those.

Anyone else have important stuff to add? Is there another thread where most of this is answered? If so, link it, and if not, maybe we should sticky this if we have enough stuff for newbies. (Btw, the bit on the Factions website with 'For New Players is outdated, as it has us still listed in Intermission, and the suggested chat rooms are from Nyroth).

Yea, take the number of people in Factions chat with a grain of salt. Majority of them are usually afk, even if there are 200 people in there.

Since you're new, I'd suggest signing up for your faction on this forum, so you have access to the Shurima private forums. From there, you can introduce yourself and try to have someone help you set up a match, so you can experience your first game at Factions!

I reserve the right to be loudly opinionated on subjects I am completely ignorant of

I've noticed that if Factions Chat has at least 100 people in it you should be able to get a pick up match going without too much trouble. You can also look to see if any of the matchstaff are online and see if one of us can get a game going.

As for featured matches, yeah there aren't many opportunities for below level 30 players in those. I used to just lump them together with bronze players, but the community heavily favored to treat them as a lower rank. Now, below level 30 players can fill a bronze slot if no bronze players can be found.

You guys are so pessimistic. Do we want to scare our new friend away?

Welcome! The first thing you can do, as Wizard mentioned, is sign up for Shurima's super secret sub forum using the link at the top-right of this page. The sub forums are where factions discuss important decisions, strategy, champion pickups, etc. Second, you can try and join or create a factions match. I find the best time for this is usually in the evening when people are getting home from work/school/summer stuff. Also, try to make friends with some of the regulars; it's not only a nice way to get to know people, you'll also have people on your friends list you know will likely come if you invite them.

And don't worry about your rank. Sub-30 players are welcome to play, and submitted match scores are adjusted based on the ranks of the players; for example, a team with a pre-30 and a handful of silvers lose to a team of golds, the gold team won't gain as many points as they would had they beaten a team of equal skill. Conversely, if the lower skilled team wins, they get MORE points. We try to keep matches fair--especially for weekend featured matches--but with random pickup games, sometimes you take the players you can get, and that's what the varied point system helps mitigate. Featured matches are a little more strict about rank, however.

Edit: also my post was so long and boring, Mike slipped in front of me. >.<

Guys, leave it to the official new player help guide staff member here :P

So ah, they already stated everything you need to know regarding matches. I would also recommend adding a few of us to your friends list in case you have any questions, or want us to play a match with you, or if you just want to chat about random stuff.

I won't lie, the Factions chat may go a little off tangent sometimes, but we encourage you not to be shy!

So if you have any further questions, feel free to pm me on the boards and add me in game.

EDIT: ... And who's going to be in the chat room at 6:20 am lol. West Coast life~

I updated the Beginner's Guide somewhat. Still needs work, and I welcome suggestions, but at least it doesn't say it's still Intermission anymore!

First of all, when did you change your name to Wistful? Secondly, what do you mean the chat sometimes gets "off tangent?" Isn't talking about death, arguing over minor technical details, and being awesomely weird the point of this whole thing? If its not, then poor you guys. Life=death. BTW: Welcome to my enemies graveyard new guy >:)
