I've noticed a few people have have managed to create alter-egos in the Factions lore. I was wondering how it happened. |

Highly valid. This is my first arc, so look, my summoner is a Shuriman! |

Hay, what is considered psychotic for a human and be completely normal behaviour for a Yordle. Yordle psychology isn't human. |

Last I checked, like 50% of the summoners submitted in the new poll thingie are listed as "Idealistic" and "Cheerful". How are so many people evil, yet idealistic and cheerful? Silly summoners! :3 Also, seeing most come from Demacia and Ionia kinda makes sense, they are generally the most diplomatic nations. And Zaun is....Zaun as usual. We actually have a pretty decent variety of national representatives, although Bilge is oddly empty atm. Glad to see mainly humans with a handful of Yordles and Undead as well; it could have easily been a billion Augmented Marai or something similarly "bad fanfic taste" |

Yeah. I haven't written mine either because I don't have a link to a longer write-up yet. I'm waiting for the wiki issue to settle. Oh well.
It's part of being a writer. Pick a normal name with a little bit of flair. Something that fits, that is easy to pronounce and remember, that's really it. |

But at what point does a normal name with a little bit of flair become unnormal? |

If it starts to sound like a character from My Little Pony, probably not normal enough. ![]() I scanned some of the entries quickly and I especially liked Light's 'real' name. It's "Light P. Xerxes" which sounds like a real name but is also aligns with his Summoner name, LightPhyXer. |

Well, the art is really in knowing how much of a flair is good and how much is too much. It's like spice/salt on food, actually. A little bit turns a bland, flavourless dish into something really good, but too much ruins it. Something like "John Smith" is too bland. But "Jack Redsmith" is suddenly interesting because of that bit of flair you added. You can also work backwards and "dilute" something that is too flavourful. For example, "Thran'rah of the Eternal Seas" is a bit too much for a Summoner (works better as a legendary NPC perhaps). So you can scale it back to something like "Thran Seaborn". |

Shadow the names you suggested sound like the randomly generated names from World of Warcraft. Also does anyone know the nomenclature in Ionia? Ionia is named after the Greek islands but is modeled after Asia |

May I also suggest name generators? Depending on what you want, name generators can help you with a name or at least give you ideas. Here I just googled "Game of Thrones name generator" and got a really good generator right at the top. If I wanted a character's name to sound Game-of-Thrones-y, I could use this to help out. Generators aren't perfect, but if you are blanking on a name or just need a throwaway name, these can be good starting points. Obviously know your character as well. "Thran Seaborn" is not a very good name for some stuffy noble born in a big city, but could work great for the foreign captain of some exotic spice trader. Edit: lol I post this and Rex is like "sounds like just randomly generated stuff"....uhhhhhh >.> Edited by AbiwonKenabi, Aug 1 2015, 10:47 PM.

I always like people with names that are complete opposite of their occupation since it would a major coincidence if someone named Thran Seaborn traded on the seas, though I guess it could always cease to be a cliche by lampshading, or just the fact that someone changed their name to match their occupation. (I'm fond of a certain innkeeper named Inkeeper. Really clever there)

Actually, if you live in Bilgewater, Seaborn might be a common last name given to any illegitimate child born at sea (parentless children still probably want last names, and giving them all the same one based on custom is usually how those things are handled). I went with a similar idea for my own Summoner, a made-up last name that means "brought in by the snowdrift" as a poetic term for "abandoned child or orphan". This was a common practice in medieval Europe, and got a resurgence of popularity whenever a war created a lot of orphans. |
