EVERY DAY IS A GOOD DAY TO TORTURE, MAIM, AND DESTROY
|
Below is a message I sent to CCT like yesterday, and after I sent it I thought-instead of just my thoughts coming in, maybe others would like to comment! So I was wondering if you feel the same way that I do about this arc. So below is the message that I sent-afterwards, go ahead and tell me if you think I said things correctly, if you agree, etc. Don't be harsh -.- Spoiler: click to toggle |

While understand your intent, Xalk, I think that there's more to it than merely intent and impact. (AKA cause and effect). The way in which things are said/done is also very relevant. I wasn't moved by Light's valid points because of the way he presented his argument. It could've been completely logical and 100% valid (and it generally was), but the way in which it was presented didn't motivate me to give him the reply he may have been wanting.

Well...yeah. Just because I only analyzed one way, doesn't mean it doesn't go the other way too. His intent was just to present his point of view. Your reaction, however, responded to not necessarily his point of view, but his tone. He probably hardly thought about "my tone here needs to be more _______." So quite frankly, it still applies, just in the inverse direction. Also Kwon, this is what happens when school starts back up. I start using my brain again. |

I didn't particularly look for a reply. I just wanted to add on to Crzy's statement and offer a view from the side that's been affected by specific rule implementations that did not affect other factions in the same way. I wanted to give some feedback on the arc, because, in the end, the player experience (for me, specifically) has been lackluster this arc. I wanted to identify why, and I'm glad to know a lot of what I found made Lines in the Sand lackluster is very actively being worked on. The rest of the post after the critique line was just me throwing out things I've always wondered about Factions in general. I suppose that was simply not the right place for it, but I don't visit often anymore and wanted to get something out there. |

C'mon Crzy, what purpose does that statement serve other than to incite bad feelings amongst us? Light doesn't seem offended, he's taking it better than you and we are fine with hearing his opinion (or any community opinion). SK has a right to his opinions and feelings too, he's just explaining himself. No need to call names. Your statement is less likely to get this discussion to move on and more likely to cause people to get defensive. |

That is your opinion Abi. You have a right to it just, as I have a right to express mine. Also, you can't really judge how light is feeling based on what he types lol. You can pretend to be any emotion through the unemotional typeface of text. |

B-but tone! Doesn't that help explain how a narrator feels through his context? I mean, you can pretend to be any emotion, but, unless you're trolling someone, you generally feel the same way that you type text. |

"Work smarter, not harder." It's difficult. You have to be smart, for one thing. But that's the meta-skill I'm working on. It's always been my weakest. Scheduling and workflow management, I mean. I'm absolutely awful at it. My natural state is to sort of drift around, then have flashes of inspiration and work for days, then get distracted some more. I'm absolutely awful at "Type A skills". Well, that's not true, is the nice thing. Not so long ago, I was truly abysmal at that. I've gradually (sometimes painfully) improved on that weak point. But managing a large-scale endeavor like this requires management on a whole new level. It's really interesting, but, yeah. I need to keep reminding myself that I'm not great at that, and I need to continue improving. Edited by CupcakeTrap, Sep 16 2015, 10:36 AM.

Don't worry, time management was always my weakness too. I coasted through high school and never had to work too hard and still did great. I get to college and it's like "Free time? I have loads of it now? Alright!" Failing to realize that that free time needs to be used for both fun and also studying for significantly harder classes. So when my old high school teachers ask me the number one thing I would suggest for them to help their students prepare for college, it's always "TIME MANAGEMENT" Edited by AbiwonKenabi, Sep 16 2015, 02:00 PM.

That's funny, because I actually have to teach people on time management in my job. It seems like an easy concept, but once you throw in a whole bunch of factors (school, work, family, etc.) you've come to realize that it's difficult to keep up with everything. |

You see, the thing with time management and free time is the fact that, despite having more free time to do stuff, an individual with more free time tends to get less done than an individual who is busy. It comes with the saying "If you want something done, ask a busy person," since the mentality is, if a person is busy, they tend to get a lot done through techniques such as all-nighters, extra deadlines, and extreme efficiency of their time. Whereas a person with free time is just kinda... "coasting." "Oh hey, look, I have free time, better go check social media/Youtube/League Factions forums," and stuff like catching up on sleep, food, family, friends, and other unnecessary things that can be sacrificed for work. While I'd like to say I have excellent time management skills, it often comes due to an unnatural tendency to be absolutely fearful of missing deadlines that may or may not exist, often resulting in work being done much earlier than it needs to be. This, however, takes a check on my sanity. Plus, its like, AP classes work, so its not really much anyways when compared to like real world stuff that you guys do. It's not really scary. College is actually pretty cool, and the freedom aspect is a part of that. It's just very easy to lapse into bad habits early on and therein lies the troubles. "Oh, I have a lab report due, but I don't HAVE to finish it tonight." "Oh, I don't HAVE to go to class." Ya know, stuff like that. Like tonight, where I just turned in a lab report due in literally an hour. 3 hours ago I had some data and some semblance of an introduction, I had to whip up an entire report. Or test studying: I didn't have to study much in high school, college is different, so I had to adjust my time to include studying. But outside of the school work, college is so cool. You can actually find groups of friends where it is extremely cool to be a video game nerd, or be into any fandom. And then you can do stuff with it, whatever you want. If you want to play through Dokapon Kingdom with a bunch of friends, you just do it. If you want to be in two weekly RPG campaigns at once, go for it. If you want to do a 72 hour gameathon of nonstop gaming, you do it. College lets you do this stuff, and actually meet people who will not only do this stuff with you, but expand your horizons as well. I discovered the joys of table-top RPGs thanks to my college buddies, and hell, I wouldn't even be playing a game like League of Legends if it wasn't for college. Anyways...that got off-track...I think I'm tired... |
