Hey, I just found out about Factions and am very interested in participating but currently a story is already in progress. I'm honestly not sure where to start and what to do if anything. Am I supposed to just wait for the next arc to start or is there something I can do in the meantime? Thanks in advance, - Miniman |

Hello! Um, we currently are in intermission, next arc is expected to start on April 8th. For Factions games, we currently play on weekends, from 12:30 to 3:30 PST, in streamed matches. Normally, there are pickup games throughout the week during an Arc, but not many people are playing at the moment because we're sort of on break (prepping for next arc.) You can join the Factions chat room in the client, and get to know a few people I suppose, but not much will be going on except for prime time on weekends, until April 8th, when everything starts rolling. PM if you have further questions. EDIT: Also there are no matches this weekend because our streamer/ matchmaker is currently catching up on homework, or something like that. Hello, I'm new but have become a huge fan of this factions theme and am as caught up as can be lore wise. I don't know if this question and hypothesis should be posted on Lore or not but I have to ask, are their any plans tor an inter-faction arc, or rather Civil War fiasco in more simple terms? Like for instance In old Lore and perhaps currently, the Du Countue Family (Katarina, Talon, and Cassiopeia) not only despise Swain but supect his involvement with the mysterious disappearance of thier Father and the mysterious death of the late Grand General Darkhill. It would seem highly plausible that if/when an oppurtunity arose they would start a coup de ta against Swain and his court (which include Darius, Draven, LeBlanc and her Black Rose which correct me if i'm wrong, include Vladimir and Elise). They could pull It off too, between Kats Noble Status, her ties to Bilgewater, She could easily get the manpower and supplies she needs and she could also secure aid from fellow champions who hate Swain, Such as Riven and Sion, it wouldn't be too hard to convince them to their cause due to thier more traditional values and the fact that they hate Swain with a passion. Not to mention Cassiopeia's own sphere of influence which I clouded her friendship with Xerath and Reneckton not only could she convince them to fight for her cuase but could also use this ties to negotiate with Azir himself to gain Shuriman suport, using shuriman lands that Noxus gianed control of since line in sands arc as incentive/leverage. In addition, if things get too drawn out and things get a bit desperate she could take advantage of the old enemy of my enemy is my friend to the next level to gain support from Demacia, play in her unique relationship with Garen to get his help and manipulating Jarvan's animosity towards Swain, considering the old crow's antics during Nyroth arc the prince might just be willing to risk it. While Swain of course can easily call on his Zaunite friends such as Singed and Warwick and if desperate enough turn to the Shadow Isles and/or the void. In a similar yet different scenario, a civil War with Freljord. As Lissandra's inevitable betrayal and Sejuani's not so secret opposition towards Ashe and her methods fighting is sure to break out and the other factions will have to take sides as well. Ashe already has an alliance with Demacia in addition to her home front allies which include her husband Tryndamere, Anivia, Nunu, and Braum. Since Lissandra's only ally in Freljord is Trundle, she may just as well seek for outside help just keep up a show while she enacts her master plan, allies could be Void and or Shadow Isles or perhaps even Noxus. Sejuani while opposes her rivals view should be smart enough to know that she cant hope to with against her and her allies that include Demacia, even with support from Udyr, Volibear, and Olaf. Considering her philosophy of strength and conquest, she may ally herself with Noxus to counter her rivals alliance with Demacia or perhaps even Shurima knowing its goal to return to glory. I figured these situation would not only fit well with established lore but create creative rosters, teams and Strategies. |

The thing is, Katarina did have an opportunity to overthrow Swain and become Grand General herself, back during the Civil War. Instead, she looked into trying to find her father again. Now Swain took his time during Nyroth to root out and kill those who opposed him and sought a return to the Old Ways, and I have a really hard time believing he's going to let Katarina of all people, take control of Noxus. Don't forget that Swain also had influence in Bilgewater (before Gangplank burned that and every Noxian bridge ever) Oh, and let's not forget the Hexkorps supported Noxus in the Purge. Do you really think any soldiers who were around at that time are going to want to pick a fight with the baddest boy on the block, especially considering Noxus isn't exactly united against them? Oh, and that's also forgetting how shitty of a Diplomat Katarina canonically is. Ionia and Frejlord would probably support Swain just to keep her off. Edited by Kaynunot, Apr 28 2016, 06:22 PM.

Every day is Lissandra Appreciation Day

We have no plans of advancing the Freljord Civil War for the time being. The Freljord is not so united and peaceful that it needs conflict, and we generally find it more interesting to see the different tribes join forces against external threats or to pursue common goals, as it gives us more nuanced and complex conflict. My official stance on this is "save the Civil War for when we have absolutely no other thing we can possibly do with the Freljord." Once Lissandra blows her cover, there's no turning back and things will get extremely ugly, extremely fast. The Freljord will not be same, and it's actually extremely doubtful whether we'll be able to justify putting all the Freljord champions together under the same faction after the Civil War goes in full swing. Right now, we can, and it makes things a lot easier for everyone. Let's not rush into things we can't take back. Edited by ShadowKnight1224, Apr 28 2016, 06:27 PM.

And Ironically Riot has actually teased Frejlord Lore Revamp with Taliyah too, so let's not dive in while the water's boiling, hm? |

They've been teasing something with the Freljord for a long time now. From last year's Bilgewater event, where there were mentions of Freljordian ships, to the Harrowing lore piece with Olaf, to Targon's mention of Freljordian raiders (the one that Leona kills being basically a Tryndamere knock-off), to the recent mention in Taliyah's lore. Apparently the Freljord is getting a lot more international, which is a nice contrast to "everything is a mystery and nobody has heard of anything beyond their home city." |

Fair enough, I was just merely being hypothetical, and like I said when an opportunity arises it didn't have to now or next year, I just wanted to know if the idea/option is on the table. I mean at best we could beta test the idea and experimental with possible teams and rosters of such events to just the fun of trying different teams and Strategies the inner conflict that ensues and effects the rest of Valor while sides are chosen and lines are drawn just creates more lore option and story opportunities. |

"“In the Frozen North there are a people that resist Noxian rule. With them you might find passage back to your sands.” “What is in this… Freljord?” she said, testing the word in her mouth. “Ice,” he said. “And stone,” he added with a wink. It was her turn to smile. ....yuuuup. |

Yes, while Taliyah's Journey does take her to Freljord it seems to me as more of a detour, since her final destination is her home Shurima |

We've already had a Sejuani vs. Ashe match (Lissandra joined Ashe's side and sent Trundle to join Sej's) as a way for Sejuani to undermine Ashe's political standing after Nyroth, where Ashe started out as the official leader of the faction but we swapped her out for Lissandra after the Krocylea Disaster. Sejuani winning means that the Freljord will start with a different status than it did in Nyroth, at least lore-wise. In general we prefer to downscale conflicts so that they are resolved via the Institute (which is what it's there for).
Eh, Taliyah is from Shurima, and she sounds young and uneducated. I do not expect her to have heard of the Freljord. Note how Yasuo, some glorified swordsman from Ionia, did know of the Freljord. |

The Noxian event would be much harder to pull off. In the Hextech Revolution there was the outright revolution against Swain and his regime where there was fighting in the streets between citizens angry at Swain's rule and the Noxian military (led by Darius, worth mentioning that while he certain would seem like a supporter of the traditional Noxus he is one of Swain's most loyal generals). Zaun came in and together they really wiped out most of those that would oppose Swain at this point. As for the Freljord, that would be more doable, though I don't know how viable it would be for a full length arc. For the Lissandra issue, she could be involved by having the Troll tribes battle and get help from an outside faction while secretly relaying supplies and intelligence from the Avarosan to the trolls. We couldn't have any side wiped out (or we would have a major problem with both Champions Freljord uses and continuity with Riot lore) but could have a dramatic shift in power. Still, a full sized arc would be problematic with the tiny rosters the subfactions would have. Bringing in other factions allying with them could increase their size, but it would likely end up feeling like a war between the ally factions more than an actual war between the subfactions. We could explore the idea with a tournament or set of featured matches, making it a much shorter and easier to work with. We had something similar at the end of Nyroth where for some intermission featured matches the Avarosan and Demacia faced the Winter's Claw and Noxus. As for the Frostguard we had it play both sides to split their bet, so to say, with Lissandra playing for Avarosan and Trundle playing for Winter's Claw. The Winter's Claw won and was given some sway in Freljord's end of Nyroth voting. If we were to do a full 3 way war we could say it isn't a league dispute but an actual series of military clashes and the games are simply are way of simulating that, which would allow Trundle and Lissandra to both fight for the Frostguard without Lissandra openly revealing herself (once again the idea being she is aiding the trolls covertly). We could go with a 2v2 fight with just Winter's Claw and Avarosan with Trundle and Lissandra playing both sides again. It would be simpler, and greatly help in keeping it as a Freljord event rather than being more about the ally factions (even in the Featured match event I talked about we may have overdone the number of Noxian and Demacian champions available in the games and it felt more of Demacia vs Noxus than a Freljord fight), as the Frostguard faction would need to be out of necessity more of their allied faction than them (only 2 champions) but moving their champions to the other 2 subfactions would reduce the need for more champions from allies. |

Well I see you might have a point of Argument let me give you my rebuttal. Yes she may have had the oppurtunity, but that didn't necessarily make it the right one. Not to mention she's far more suited to spying, assassination, and sabotage, the kind of skills that throw empires into chaos rather than command herself. Secondly the priority at the time was finding her father since he only disappeared recently meant there was a trail thus a better chance to find him. If she challenged Swain directly not only would it end badly for and her house if she failed but she would lose whatever trail there was to follow thus a lose-lose situation so she chose the best option at the time. Now After years of dead-ends and false leads, it seems the only way to get answers is to ask the suspect I question, but of course she couldn't ask directly. As for Swain's purge, last I checked he didn't get all of them just decimated them, unless there's an update In the lore that hasn't been posted in the factions website then I don't know about it. More to the point those rabble-rousers were a terroristic mob at best, with little support and organization. Now if the Du coutue family took charge they wouldnt just go all out do-or-die assault like last time, no they would fight smarter and sneakier playing to thier strenths: spying, assassination, and duplicity. Hitting high profile targets unaware and then fade into the shadows before retaliation, whacking certain nobles and pointing to other noble or blackmailing them to thier side. Not to mention if Riven and/or Sion got involved thier presence alone would be inspired to fight, very few things brings hope for victory then fighting g besides heroes who actually have experience under thier belt. And as you pointed out earlier Gangplank burned Swain s ties to Bilgewater after he stole his flagship, and Kat still frequents there making her the sole noxian contact for Bilgewater and I imagi e someone of her wealth and skill is able to cash in quiet a few favors. As for the Hexcorp, do keep in mind that A: Noxus let them in and the reformist radicals really we're not much of threat to begin, it was just Swain s typically making a point like he did with Xan Shon. B: The biggest factor and greatest weakness of the Hexcorp is it's sole reliance of Pyrikos to keep powering thier warmachine, and thier biggest supply lies, correct me if I'm wrong, in the Shurima Dessert. Cassiopeia with her connection with Shurima could easily coordinate with them to take the mines out of the equation thus halting thier warmachine and forcing the Hexcorp to prioritize thier deployment of forces thus divide thier power. And before you start with the Battle of Shurima, I would like to point out that first the Shurima empire is a lot closer than Demacia so the window for reinforcments is streched and even then the only reason thier were able to hold out was due to the fact that not only did the Hexcorp have full support from Noxus at the time and the fact that both the Hexcorp and Noxus had access to Warpgates, if those gates were taken out then the mine would easily be taken over by the time reinforcements arrived and S hurima would expand its borders and then the he xcorp would have to decide whether to fully support Swain, get thier mine back, or take a risk and divide thier forces. Sounds easy enough to sabatage a warpgate. Not even mentioning that with such as shift in power and priority that Zauns technological rivals such as Piltover and Bandle city might just take advantage of the situation and give them some payback allowing the more better people make a bid to take over further throwing the Hexcorp into fighting on more fronts than it can handle thus simpy leaving Noxus to handle its own affairs. And even if Kat isn't that great a diplomat, she's got Talon and Cassiopeia to back her up. And really, Ionia? The people Swain bombed and oppressed twice in within a few years? I think they would rather prefer Kat than Swain if the bloody ninjas didn't think think it was against the balance and that would be the only excuse. Edited by ChaosControl7, Apr 28 2016, 08:58 PM.
