Keeper of the Veritama
|
Chapter 1: What Are Veritama. Among my studies during my youth during the years following the founding of the Institute of War and the end of the Rune Wars, my thirst for Knowledge consumed me. I sought to find the origin of Magic in Runeterra, and first turned to the Runes that the most potent magic derives from. Surely, Runic magic, in it's unparalleled power, must have derived from some more potent uncontrollable source of power. I consulted the oldest tomes within Ionia's largest libraries, seeking for the oldest myths and legends about Magic's origins. As I uncovered myth after myth, I decided to try and trace down the origins of these myths. I began traversing Ionia, searching for ancient ruins. Along the way, I encountered the champion Ezreal, who was most helpful in tracking down many of these ruins. Most of the artifacts he found were given to the League for Study, while I was more interested in the inscriptions found upon the walls. Over time, I began to find a root. Similarities between Ancient writing systems and the runes that were the source of the most offensive of magics. As I sought truth, I decided to learn Nature magic so that I might commune with the trees of the ancient groves and see what knowledge of the past they held. These forays into the most ancient living beings found upon the face of Runeterra, not only gave me knowledge, but a great burden and blessing. The Trees told me of the souls of all things, including Runeterra itself. The studying of leylines has also confirmed that Runeterra seems to be a "Living" entity. It makes sense then why the Continent Nyroth was so damaged during Valoran's Rune Wars. We were taking the life of the world beneath our feet and twisting it for our own gain. During the Rune Wars we became Parasites and Viruses. Twisting the thing we lived on for our own purposes. Through this study of the souls of all things, I found that there were symbols, or rather, expressions of the soul made physical, that everything possesses. Not only physical entities but also meta-physical ideas and thoughts. These expressions of the soul or essence of these ideas and objects, are the source of all magic. These expressions were then twisted and corrupted to form Runes. These runes were had enough of a connection to maintain terrible power, but no longer were the pure essence of the sources from which they came. As the trees told me the expression for trees, I wrote it down, and found a comfort flow through me. It was as if the trees accepted me as a keeper of these symbols. I named them Veritama. Or Symbols of Truth. These symbols are difficult to trace, and are rare, as they do not represent sounds. They represent ideas, objects, and physical and meta-physical entities. Emotions, Elements, Living beings, even new inventions contain a Veritama that binds them to the magic of this world. As such, it becomes difficult to ascertain the true Veritama of an object. Small variations are allowable without corrupting the Veritama and turning it into a rune. This means that Veritama take time to identify properly. I am fortunate to be known as the keeper, and am given a feeling for when I uncover Veritama in their true form. Chapter 2: How Veritama Express themselves. Veritama Express themselves through lines, Curves, and Dots formulated in a pattern that captures the essence of the entity the Veritama is meant to represent. Because the curves, lines, and dots are all so precise, it takes many attempts to find the right pattern to encapsulate a Veritama properly. However, once a Veritama has been found and it's true form is written, It is much easier to reproduce. So far, approximately 75 Veritama have been found and recorded. Out of the hundreds and thousands of entities and ideas, this becomes only a small portion of the potential Veritama in existence. However, it should be noted, that from using Veritama as my primary form of spellcasting, combining Veritama results in unique expressions that are still true and encapsulate the essence of being. These leads me to the idea that there are actually an expansive, yet finite number of Veritama, that can be combined into a near infinite number of possible combinations. My theory is that if an entity cannot be expressed by an existing Veritama, or some combination thereof, it creates a new Veritama, and in this, it will never occur that an object has no "Soul".
