A young acolyte bows as you approach. "Greetings, Summoner. I confess your face is yet unfamiliar to me. May I ask your name?"
He opens the register book and wets a quill. Will you sign?

Kuronan Estimare, Psionic Psion of House Estimare
Kuronan looked towards the dark, stormy sky. Although it had indeed been some time since he had fought in a Dispute, he didn't put his heart and soul into the fight as he had before. He could still remember that day, over six months ago.

Many people seemed to think that swearing to a Faction during a dispute was this massive ceremony with the Council presiding, that the whole world watched as each Summoner even had a few sentences to add to the standard speech to uphold the principles of the Institute. The truth for those below Diamond was usually less romantic though, a private ceremony with at least one League Delegate and one Summoner who was a Citizen of the Faction. This time was no different, a League Official presiding, a Shuriman Summoner holding forward a book that looked to be a Shuriman Manifesto. It was a hardcover book with a large circle on the face and four runes at each corner. Inside would likely be names of all Shuriman Summoners sworn in, those whose allegiance was considered Permanent would be in the front and those who were Temporary were to the back though such books also had enchantments to find specific names if you were looking for them. Kuronan placed his right hand on the circle.

"Do you, Summoner Kuronan Estimare, swear to uphold the Tenets of the Institute of War? To report any misconduct, tamperings, or other activities that would interfere with the processes of the Institute of War?"
"I do." Kuronan said, all but literally crossing his fingers as he remembered the Night Terrors and Pharmakhon II projects that interfered with several events.
"Do you swear to uphold Honor, Dignity, and Respect for your opponents, no matter what the outcome as stated in the Summoner's Code?"
"I do." Kuronan repeated, not thinking of his common trash talking of factions he disrespects or the misconduct of sardonically suggesting someone was tampering with the matches if a Faction had bad luck and something was happening to the Summoner's connection to their Champion.
"And do you promise to uphold the Virtues of your chosen Faction of Shurima, and to represent them in the most dignified manner possible?"
"I do."
"Then by the power invested in me, I affirm your Allegiance to Shurima for the remainder of this dispute." The Shuriman runes shone gold as magic was channeled within, inscriptions on the front shone brightly as Kuronan's name was inscribed among the list of Summoners representing Shurima.

Of course, Kuronan knew he had 'played' in maybe three matches the entire time. The truth was personal matters had drained a lot of his energy during the dispute. He simply couldn't fight during a Depression. This time however, he had the energy and he was positive nothing could interfere. This time, he would represent a Faction and though it would not be Zaun or Noxus (the faction he decided half-way through he might have been better off siding with) Instead he would turn to a face many had debated about. While Kuronan was loyal to Zaun, This arc had given him two options in how to secure a stronger future for Zaun. Which is why he found it Ironic that despite 'owning' every Void Champion, he found the tome he placed his hand upon was a musty tome and that the woman he stood before smelled of Salt Water. A year ago, he would have thrown her against a wall, he would have tried to kill her, he might have even considered it Justified.

"And do you promise to uphold the Virtues of your chosen Faction of Bilgewater, and to represent them in the most dignified manner possible?"
"I do."

Hah! I would not have guessed Bilgewater for you, Kuro. Looks like we're on the same side this arc.

I liked the retrospective, there is pathos in the honesty and awareness with which you treat your Summoner. I am quite fond of it.

Definitely didn't expect you to join Bilge, although thinking on it, Kuronan doesn't really fit in with the others, does he? Especially considering your justification against the Void.

I really like references to real League stuff and how that translates into in-universe stuff. It's always a lot of fun to try and explain the "mundane" functions of the game.

I as a player enjoy playing with Void Champions, and indeed Kuronan acknowledges that the Void has a great deal of Power. The thing is... that power's got a really heavy price down the road, as The Battle of Shurima and even Krocylea showed and it's hard to look at both of those events and say 'Yea, these things totally need more influence, it's not like it's going to bite us in the ass.' There were other miscellaneous things though, like his decision to look into Cosmic Magic and Beta, but The Battle of Shurima and Krocylea were definitely turning points in his view. He doesn't really blame Icathian Summoners though because he knows Icathia is very good at making extremely tempting offers. The Hextech Revolution would never have happened if not for Discord after all.

As for the inclusion of the Oath Summoners (might) undertake to join a Faction during a dispute, I do love details like that. In fact it's one of my greatest pleasures as a roleplayer to World Build. I just love knowing how most things work (don't ask me about Academic Theorum on Leylines and Nexi, but I want more than 'this thing happened.' or 'It's magic, I'm not explaining it.')
