A young acolyte bows as you approach. "Greetings, Summoner. I confess your face is yet unfamiliar to me. May I ask your name?"
He opens the register book and wets a quill. Will you sign?

"Hey there, Cyrus, my dearest nephew. It's your uncle, Newton. How's everything going over there? I hope you're having fun being the summoner you always told me you wanted to be. Stay safe, though, okay? I love you like a son, and if there's anything you need I'll help you out best I can. In fact, the reason why I wanted to call you is that I just had a great business deal recently, and I snagged a gift for you to look at. So come on down whenever you'd like, and try it out! Love you, Cyrus. Take care."

Cyrus hung up. It had been a while since he had talked to his uncle, and the thought of visiting him was a pleasant thought. His adventures at the Institute were definitely exotic and very exciting, but there were times he missed his uncle's caring words and how accepting he was.

He took off, travelling to Zaun with from the Institute with Russell, until he eventually reached the door of his old residence, where he lived with his uncle Newton. Cyrus knocked on the door, awaiting a response until Newton slowly opened the door. "Oh, you arrived! Thank goodness, Cyrus, I missed you so much..." The two Barclays shared a warm hug before Newton invited his nephew and his robot companion to come inside.

Cyrus looked around for a bit to see if anything had changed. The place wasn't as grandeur as other wealthy Zaunites chose to live in, but Newton often said to him that he chose to live this way because he didn't need much, and that the money was better off put into supporting his workers and his business. The main room had a sense of fancy decor, but not too lavish that signaled the abundance of wealth the resident owned. The front door was painted steel black with a shiny silver knob, and windows that were tinted silver to match. From the entrance you could see a comfortable looking couch to the right of the room with a sharp widescreen television hung to the wall in front of it, as well as a small coffee table and a few chairs here and there around it. There were a few other doors that lead to other places, which Cyrus recognized lead to the kitchen, bathroom, and other main rooms. A spiral staircase seemed to lead into the upper levels of the house. Nothing much has changed, it seems.

"Come, Cyrus, I've been wanting to give you this the moment I saw it. I know you're into these hextech things, and I couldn't help buying it for you when I saw it." Newton spoke as he walked himself up the stair case, Cyrus and Russell following along as he led them to Cyrus' old workshop room. Cyrus used to spend many days taking spare parts from the factory and playing around with them, forming many different kinds of inventions to toy with. It served many of his pleasurable memories, like when he first discovered how alarm clocks functioned. The workshop walls were painted blue, and to the left was a table with various kinds of tools sprawled around it. The center of the room held a rather large desk for working on projects along with a lamp connected to it that hung overhead. On the large desk was a gift wrap box, put together neatly with red ribbons and green wrap. "Go on, open it. You'll love it," Newton offered as Cyrus opened the box to find a construct bird inside. Cyrus pulled it out and examined it. It was a lovely figure, presenting its appearance with the delicacy and fragileness certain types of birds had, as well has having a blue hextech core that glowed a bright neon blue during start up.

"I know you like these kinds of things, so I decided to get you one to modify, try out, whatever."

Cyrus was very pleased. "..This is fantastic. I love it. Thank you so much, uncle Newton."

Newton smiled. "It's nothing, anything for my nephew. Look, I have to go out for a bit, but you can stay here in the workshop and do whatever you want with it. Enjoy your gift, and I love you!" he called out as he went down the stairs and outside the house.

Cyrus stared at the construct for a few moment. After doing a few system checks, he decided to tweak the parts a bit to make the avian robot run faster and more efficiently, digging out his tools and using Russell to help him as he spent a good amount of hours on it, as well as loading a database into its AI to help give it a base knowledge of the world to help it identify what it saw.

"Almost finished," he let out with a sigh. "I just need to set the hextech core to run a bit faster and.."

"Cyrus, wait."

"Hmm? What happened, Russell?"

"What if.. you did the same thing you did to me with it? Put magic into it, bring it to life?"

"I suppose I could, but why did you want to..?"

"Well.. first of all, it'd be fun to have someone else to talk to like me most of the time. I mean, Naxe's around, but he's mostly with Red so I don't get to see him much. Also, as much as I try my best to protect you, having someone else there to help would make my life easier."

"..I guess. I don't know if it'll work the same like with you, but I can try.."

Cyrus tapped into his mana, drawing his magic forth into his fingers, and touched the core, infusing it with Lightning and Life magic. The construct shuddered for a bit, taking in the new energy it was given, and rebooted itself. After it was finished starting up again, the robotic bird shifted its head around, using its optical sensors to observe its surroundings. It used its database to find a way of communication, and found a language it could use to speak to the beings in front of it.

"H-Hello. "

"Haha, it worked! Hey there, little fella."

Cyrus was a bit surprised the construct held together its sentiency and still fully functioned. After Russell, Cyrus attempted recreating the same thing with other constructs, but most of them either stopped working or had no changes to it, which he later identified as a lack of strong hardware that Russell had. This construct that Newton gave him seemed to be recent, and it accepted the magic it was given. Where could he have gotten it from..?

"Ahm..excuse me, but..I don't believe I have a name. Would you like to give one for me to respond to?" The construct chirped.

A name, huh? Naming it was rather easy-- the delicacy of the construct, and how it styled its words reminded him of an old friend he had. She had the timidness the construct seemed to portray, and Cyrus enjoyed being with her until one day she and her family had to move to Piltover. She shared the same technological interest Cyrus had, and they spent a good amount of time working together as classmates and helping each other on projects. She was meek, but a sweet girl, and Cyrus fondly remembered the day she left where they talked a lot before she gave him a goodbye hug.

"Skye."

"Okay. One moment, and...done! I will now respond to 'Skye'. Nice to meet you!"

"Skye, huh? Where'd you get that from?"

"..An old friend. She used to live here not too long ago."

Cyrus picked up the construct, holding it in his hands. "Hello, Skye. My name's Cyrus. Cyrus Barclay. How are you?"

'Skye' was his way of remembering his old friend. While it was unlikely they would meet soon since Skye the human was a bit older than he was and spent most of her time researching at Piltover, and even less likely she would remember Cyrus, he felt the time they spent together was well spent and worth living through.

It would be tough teaching the new construct the ways of the world, but Cyrus felt like it would be worth seeing through. She certainly had potential to grow as a construct like Russell did, and having another construct wasn't an idea he was against. Russell seemed to enjoy it a bit as well, talking to Skye as Cyrus watched. He thought about Skye's departure again, and the last words he said to her.

I won't forget you, Skye. Maybe one day we'll see each other again.

Excellently done! You did miss some of Russell's dialogue in terms of coloring, but other than that bit of nitpicking I thoroughly enjoyed this read!

I am also glad to see the impact of Naxe mentioned. It's so great to make something that is part of a bigger whole. I look forward to more! Here's hoping we all make it out of Depths of Divinity alright.

Cyrus is such a well designed character. I'm in love with him thematically. It's so strange because Synar and Jinsan hate Zaun so much because of all the chemical weapons developed there, and that they were used on Ionia.

Synar is an adult though, and knows better than to be a total ass to a young child who didn't ask to be raised in such a terribly corrupt city. Synar knows that change begins with youth.

Jinsan is a bit hard-headed, but his heart is in the right place. He more wants to help avoid war than actually fight in them. If that means working with Zaunites, then he'll do it. (Begrudgingly, and very unhappily, but he'll do it.)
