Lore Event I (Demacia); Defend the innocent, or smite the wicked?

Vote here.

Demacia suspects that the Black Winter was not simply a natural event, and that the forces driving it are to be found in the Freljord. But just as Demacia was preparing to deploy its forces to the Freljord to hunt down these evildoers, its ally Piltover came under attack. Alchemical zombies clawed their way up from the depths, and a necrotic plague spread through the bright streets of the City of Progress.

Demacia must decide its priorities. Will it punish the evildoers, or defend the innocent?

(It will be possible to achieve both objectives, if the faction goes 3-0 in this weekend's FMs.)

What do you guys think we should do? I'm in favor of defending Piltover. Pilt sided with us in Hextech and suffered the loss alongside us as a result. It would be a major dick move to not help them while they're under a direct attack. Not to mention that given the Freljord has 3 subfactions in it, the necromancers could end up not doing much to our allies there and actually do most of its damage to the other 2 subfactions, giving our allies a better position in the Freljord civil war.

SCANDAL: Anonymous sources report that a high-ranking Demacian Summoner argued that the Freljord's current plight could be advantageous to Demacia, if the Winter's Claw and Troll Tribes suffered the brunt of the onslaught. The court of King Jarvan III has refused comment.

(Kidding. These are secret deliberations.)

I agree with the esteemed Mike. I'd rather be a part of a Demacia that helps the innocent and protects the weak.

Demacia was my home, but the stars are my destination.
Do we have evidence of the cause of the Black Winter being in Freljord? It would be a shame if were prancing around aimlessly in the snow while the civilians of Piltover are dying. I don't how well Piltover can manage without us, but my guess would be not very well. It'd be cool if we could send a few scouts, just to investigate the Freljord though.

As a concerned citizen of the shado.....demacia I think mercilessly slaughtering necromancers in freljord would be an unwise idea.

Both missions will be pursued, but the vote determines what Demacia's top priority will be. (Mechanics-wise, you get both if you go 3-0, but otherwise, priorities matter. Well, even if you go 3-0, your priority will get more attention.)

You can safely assume that there is good reason to believe that there are evildoers in the Freljord who were involved in this. For one thing, the "Black Winter" started when the Mist from Bilgewater met a blizzard coming down from the north. Also, in the first week's lore event, before your inquisitors got kicked out of the Freljord for making accusations against the Frostguard, they uncovered evidence that this was not a purely "natural" phenomenon.

More generally: whenever a lore event gives you two options, you can assume that neither is simply "wrong" in the sense of being a total waste of time. Either or both might end up being a waste of time if you fail, but there are no "traps". (Trust me! I'm a delicious cupcake! But really, though.) The closest I'd come to that would be something like the Ceruleana/Shurima decision from Hextech, where I set up a probabilities table and rolled on it to determine if the prophecy was borne out. There was a chance that it'd have been a false alarm there.

Since I don't know the outcome of this yet, I'd hope we chose to help the Pilts. And I don't just say that as a Freljordian summoner who's highly protective of Her Majesty's interests.

We went 2-1 in the matches this weekend, which I believe means we succeed in the objective we voted to focus (defend Piltover) and a stalemate in what we made the secondary objective (hunt necromancers in Freljord).
