If we pick up Taric, we'll have both the MR Champion™ (Galio) and the Armor Champion™ (Taric). Might come in handy as situational counterpicks if Ionia goes heavy magic/physical damage. I know Leona's pretty dominant, but I can see some advantages to Taric. Demacia's got a lot of solid tanks and bruisers, and Taric's abilities synergize with those stats: his armor aura makes each notch on their huge health meters harder to chip away, and his heal is especially valuable when used on someone with dense resistances. I would further submit that Taric's got better peel than Leona, who's more of a hard-engage tank. Leona is great for us, but (while I'm not too familiar with current Taric) I do like the idea of Taric hanging back with Lux and the ADC while two heavies dive the enemy and lock them down. If any Ionian does dash through, they get a stun to the face from Taric, followed by an armor shred and DPS from the ADC. If the Ionians don't dive through, Lux and the ADC keep pouring on the damage, while Taric keeps the heavies healthy. Tentatively, maybe Taric/Vayne versus Leona/(Quinn or Lucian)? Taric and Vayne for a more passive, defensive lane, Leona/(Quinn or Lucian) for a more aggressive combo. …actually, I'm pretty sure that's the opposite. This is intended more to get the conversation going than to settle it with my words of wisdom. I'm the guy who built Season 2 items on Galio last night. One thing I am pretty sure about is that Demacia has a bipolar team comp, with fragile DPS and a heavy frontline. I think a key to our success will be learning teamfight coordination. We joke about Demacia having the dumbest strategy ("everyone yell DEMACIA and smash QWER"), but there's some subtlety here. It's a wonderfully (lore-tastically) traditional team comp, with a sharp division of roles. My current thought is: (1) Heavies: Jarvan, Garen, Shyvana, Galio. Engage hard. Lock down the enemy and make them panic. Draw DPS and CC. Need to be able to absorb tons and tons of damage. (2) DPS: Lux, ADCs. Pour on damage from afar. (Lux is great this way.) (3) Optional: bodyguards. Taric, Alistar, to a lesser degree Leona. Hang back with the DPS. Do something useful from the back lines. (That's why I think Taric is ideal here: he can throw out heals and auras, and maybe even a long-range stun if there's no danger of an imminent dive on the DPS and he can spare the cooldown. Alistar can also heal somewhat. Leona, in contrast, really needs to be in someone's face.) It's important that they have a job to do even from the back lines, because otherwise if the enemy doesn't dive it becomes a functional 4v5. If Demacia does that as a coordinated 5, I think it has tremendous mid-game potential. Ionia can try to use its mobility to dash through, but the heavies have a ton of CC. The catch is that Ionia has Champions who can assassinate someone like Lux or Vayne if they break through. That's why I think Taric might have a role to play: he makes the frontline sturdier, giving the DPS time to work, and he can serve as a last line of defense if someone does break through. EDIT: People who actually know how to play this game are encouraged to be blunt about where I'm wrong. Again, my goal here is to start the conversation, not end it with my sage wisdom. So Taric is my second main after Braum, and his ult can make our all in comp stupidly strong. |

I gotta agree, that Taric ult is stupid strong. Plus, it's nice to have our own heal bot, even if it's not as strong as Soraka. Also, with Kayle, we basically monopolize invincibility. |

Demacia was my home, but the stars are my destination.

If we don't get Taric I'm gonna be so disappointed in all of you. I'm a little mad we don't have him already to be honest. |

Not to jinx it, but it seems pretty clear you're getting Taric. Haha. Poor Alistar. ![]() As an aside, any lore-related requests re: Taric? |

I'd like to know his current standing with Demacia. Because he's not really welcome there. His lore even mentions that he would be executed if he ever came back. Some interesting voiceover quotes: I am no longer the man I once was. Memories are my worst enemies. Taunting allied Jarvan IV: I bend knee to no king. Taunting allied Garen: Good to see you again old friend. I will never turn my back on Demacia. Not really sure what my point is, just that his relationship with Demacia is... complicated. And I want his lore to show that. |

Taric and Demacia is a lot like Riven and Noxus. They have problems with their home country, but appear on their roster. Still far less of a problem than people like Zed and Syndra appearing on Ionia, or Nasus/Renekton and Azir/Xerath appearing on the same roster. I would argue for Alistar over Taric, if it was the old Ali that kicked serious ass and not the new Ali that just sucks (STOP KILLING EVERY CHAMPION I LIKE TO PLAY RITO!). So, yeah let's go Taric, can't kill our team with dat ult up. |
